- In a late night development, soldiers of Chinese PLA opened fire near the Pangong Lake in Ladakh. Indian troops fired back in retaliation as a warning, following which the skirmish doused down.
- Government sources have said warning shots were fired after the Chinese opened fire at Indian positions late on Monday night. The limited exchange took place along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh and the situation has been brought under control.
- The Chinese PLA, however, has issued a statement blaming India for the exchange and said “on September 7, the Indian army illegally crossed the line and entered Bangong Hunan, the western section of the Sino-Indian border”.
- The Indian Army has said it never attempted to transgress across the LAC and has blamed Chinese provocation for the latest incident. The latest round of firing comes amid the ongoing standoff between India and China in the Ladakh region that has been on for several months. This is the second time shots have been fired since August.
There have been reports that China has deployed J-20 long-range fighter jets and several other key assets in strategically located Hotan airbase which is around 310 kms from eastern Ladakh. In the last three months, the IAF deployed almost all its frontline fighter jets like Sukhoi 30 MKI, Jaguar and Mirage 2000 aircraft in the key frontier air bases in eastern Ladakh and elsewhere along the LAC Indian Express
