Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has defeated the CM Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to register a victory in the Dubbaka Assembly bypoll.
The counting, which was held in 23 rounds on Tuesday, has put the BJP's Madhavaneni Raghunandan Rao ahead of his closest rival TRS candidate Solipeta Sujatha by a margin of 1,118 votes. The Election Commission is yet to declare the result as the counting for four EVM is pending due to technical reasons.
Congress's Cheruku Srinivas Reddy ended its tally at only 21,819 votes as compared to the BJP's 62,772 votes and the TRS's 61,302 votes.
BJP's Ram Madhav has congratulated his partymen on the victory. "Great showing by BJP in Telangana. Dubbak won by Raghunandan Rao of BJP despite most undemocratic behaviour by ruling TRS. BJP emerges as d lone alternative to TRS family raj. Hearty congrats to @bandisanjay_bjp and BJP Telangana," Ram Madhav tweeted.
