Monsoon Finally Leaves From Telangana

Monsoon Finally Leaves From Telangana
The southwest monsoon this year has been more than bountiful for the state. Lasting for nearly five months, the extent of rains has been so vast that there is no district that has received deficient rainfall.

This year, the monsoon up to August has been recorded as above normal and there has been 47 per cent excess rainfall,” said Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) director Dr K. Nagaratna. However, according to the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), the state has received 54 per cent more rainfall than the usual 809.8 mm for the monsoon months.

Presently, IMD officials said, the monsoon has withdrawn from most of the state. It will leave the last few districts soon.
According to private weather forecasting agency Skymet, in 2018, the withdrawal was completed by October 20 and in 2019, despite late commencement of withdrawal on October 9, the process was completed by October 15.

The weather systems forming in the Bay of Bengal will no longer track along with the central parts and rather recurve to the east and northeastern parts of the country. Such a pattern is in accordance with the conclusion of southwest monsoon and ingress of the northeast monsoon,” Skymet said.
“On some occasions, the two monsoons just swap without any margins as is happening this year. The southwest monsoon is likely to end its journey in the next 48 hours and simultaneously hand over the baton to the northeast monsoon,” Skymet said DC

Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), addressed a rally in poll-bound Bihar on Sunday afternoon and sought votes on behalf of the party’s state unit chief, Akhatrul Iman

He also took the opportunity to condemn both the Congress and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), who are part of the Grand Alliance (GA), or the mahagathbandhan, for their studied silence over the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), 2019 and the National Register for Citizens (NRC).

“When you were holding protests against the CAA, 2019 and the NRC in Seemanchal, both the Congress and RJD neither extended their support nor did say anything. They had preferred to remain silent,” Owaisi alleged.

“Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar and his party the Janata Dal (United) are sitting on the lap of the BJP and Mohan Bhagwat, the sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),” he further alleged.

Purnia, Kishanganj, Katihar and Araria districts comprise the Seemanchal, which has a total of 24 seats and a substantial Muslim population

Anger Spreads in Islamic World After Macron’s Backing for Prophet Muhammad S.A Cartoons

Anger Spreads in Islamic World After Macron’s Backing for Prophet Muhammad S.A Cartoons
France has appealed for foreign governments to stamp out calls by what it calls a “radical minority” for a boycott of French products after Emmanuel Macron’s public backing of the Muhammad caricatures.

The appeal came as anger escalated across the Islamic world over the president’s remarks at a national tribute to the murdered high-school teacher Samuel Paty last week, with Turkish leader, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, calling on Monday for a complete boycott of French products in Turkey.

Paty, 47, was killed after he showed his class drawings of the prophet during a debate on free speech.

After Macron promised France would not “renounce the caricatures”, a furious riposte that emerged on Friday on social media under Arabic hashtags gained momentum over the weekend.

In a strongly worded statement, France’s foreign ministry demanded that calls for a boycott of its products and the “occasionally hateful” protests against the country must end.

“These calls distort the positions defended by France in favour of freedom of conscience, freedom of expression, freedom of religion and the refusal of any call to hatred,” it read.

“Consequently, the calls for boycott are pointless and must cease immediately, as must all attacks against our country, instrumentalised by a radical minority.”

On Sunday, after protests in which the president’s picture was burned and Erdoğan, suggested his French counterpart needed “his mental health tested”, Macron also responded.

“Our history is one of a battle against tyranny and fanatacisms. We will continue,” Macron tweeted in three languages, French, English and Arabic.

“We respect all differences in a spirit of peace. We will never accept hate speech and we defend reasonable debate. We will continue. We hold ourselves always on the side of human dignity and universal values,” the French president added. The Guardian

Infections Galore in Hyderabad after Unprecedented Floods

Infections Galore in Hyderabad after Unprecedented Floods
Anti-fungal medicines are urgently required for residents and volunteers cleaning the muck and slush from Babanagar, Nallabagh, Alinagar, Osmannagar and Al Jubail Colony in the Old City.

Cleaning of knee-deep slush has been a challenge and many of them are suffering from fungal infections. It is stated that 70 per cent of the residents and volunteers are complaining of severe fungal infections, which causes itching and rashes.

Manual removal of the much is being taken up as the machines cannot enter inside these small colonies. The stagnating water is drying very slowly and the outlets are still choked. The groundwater level has increased and catchment areas where water collected when the tanks were full now have stagnant water.

The areas are now covered with muck, slush and waste which the floodwater carried along with it. Sewage, sand, carcasses of animals and waste is now being removed but it is also adversely affecting the workers.

Azam Khan who is working with volunteers in Babanagar, says “Along with the residents, there are students, doctors, engineers, techies who are volunteering for cleaning. There is still a lot of much to be removed.”

Only a few of them have protective gumboots and gloves. Most of them are suffering from severe scratching and itching and need creams which will help them.

Volunteers estimate that the work will continue for another week at least.

Some residents have slowly begun to return but many are still too scared to. A call has been given to citizens to come to these affected areas and provide aid that would help residents tide through the crisis.DC

US election: Barack Obama Slams Donald Trump Over Coronavirus Pandemic Response
While hitting the campaign trial for Democratic president nominee Joe Biden, former US President Barack Obama slammed his successor Donald Trump's response to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, which is currently the worst-hit with the world's highest number of confirmed cases and deaths.

Addressing a socially-distanced crowd at a rally in Miami on Saturday, Obama said that if Biden wins, the US will have a "normal President", The Hill news website reported.

"We won't have a President who threatens people with jail for just criticizing him," the former leader said.

"That's not normal behaviour, Florida. You wouldn't tolerate it from a coworker, you wouldn't tolerate it from a high school principal, you wouldn't tolerate it from a coach, you wouldn't tolerate it from a family member
Florida Man wouldn't even do this stuff, Why are we accepting it from the President of the US? It's not normal behavior," Obama was quoted as saying.

According to The Hill news website report, 'Florida Man' refers to an online meme and hashtag based on bizarre and unusual stories revolving around residents in the state.

Also on Saturday, Trump made a trip to Florida to cast his vote in person for the November 3 presidential election.

Last year, Trump shifted his permanent residence and voter registration from New York to Florida, a decisive state for his re-election.

In the 2016 presidential election, Trump won Florida, a major swing state, by 49.02 per cent of the votes, while his then Democratic rival Hillary Clinton came in close with 47.82 per cent of the ballots.

According to the latest RealClear Politics polling average, Biden was currently leading Trump in Florida by 1.4 percentage points or 48.2 per cent to 46.8 per cent.

Saturday's rally was the second for Obama's campaign appearances for Biden, who was his Vice President from January 20, 2009 to January 20, 2017.PTI

We’re Not Kids to be Misguided’: Owaisi Responds to RSS Chief’s CAA Remarks
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s remarks that “some people misled our Muslim brothers” on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Act drew a sharp response from AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi on Sunday.

“We’re not kids to be ‘misguided’. BJP didn’t mince words about what CAA+NRC were meant to do. If it’s not about Muslims, just remove all references to religion from the law,” Owaisi wrote on Twitter.

Earlier in the day, Bhagwat, while speaking at the Sangh’s annual Vijayadashami rally in Nagpur, said the RSS is not against any particular religious community, but “some people misled our Muslim brothers” claiming it was aimed at restricting their population

There was opposition to CAA claiming it was being used to check the Muslim population in the country. In fact, no Indian citizen was threatened due to CAA,” he said. Before the issue could be discussed further, the focus shifted to coronavirus, which overshadowed all other topics, he added.

The AIMIM chief also asserted that any law with religion as the basis of citizenship will be vociferously protested IE

Conor McGregor offers 'respect and condolences' after Khabib Nurmagomedov's victory and retirement

For years, Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov were bitter rivals. That was true in the lead-up to their fight, a lengthy period punctuated by McGregor throwing an equipment dolly into a bus carrying Nurmagomedov -- and half of the UFC 223 card in 2018. It was certainly true after Nurmagomedov beat McGregor at UFC 229 before both fighters' teams engaged in a wild post-fight brawl. And it has remained true for the years that followed, with McGregor calling for a rematch Nurmagomedov refused to give.

Good performance," McGregor tweeted. "I will carry on. Respect and condolences on your father again also. To you and family. Yours sincerely, The McGregors."

Today, I want to say, this was my last fight," Nurmagomedov said after his victory. "No way am I going to come here without my father. It was first time, after what happened with my father, when UFC called me about Justin. I talk with my mother three days, she don't want that I go fight without father. I promised her, it's going to be my last fight, and if I give my word, I have to follow this. It was my last fight here."

McGregor is set to return to the Octagon after his most recent retirement. He will fight Dustin Poirier in January in a fight that could position the winner for a shot at the now-vacant lightweight title.

No Registration of Unauthorised Plots, Says Telangana Government
Defending its stand on prohibiting registrations of unauthorised plots and layouts in the state, The Telangana government submitted to the High Court that it took this decision to prevent developers from coming up with unauthorised plots in the future.

Arvind Kumar, principal secretary of the municipal administration and urban development department, explained the reasons why the government prohibited the registrations of unapproved plots or buildings and did not grant building permissions on unapproved plots.

Kumar filed the affidavit on behalf of the government, which is respondent in the PIL filed by Congress party MP, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who challenged the GO for LRS 2020 and stopped the registrations.

The government said that the LRS scheme had been implemented several times earlier for solving the problem of common people who unknowingly bought plots in unauthorised layouts. But taking advantage of this, some developers continue to build on unapproved layouts and plots. To put the stop to this practice, the government has taken a decision to prohibit registrations of plots that did not have authorisation, Kumar said in the affidavit DC

Remdesivir Covid19 Drug Gets FDA Nod

Remdesivir Covid19 Drug Gets FDA Nod
The broad-based anti-viral drug Remdesivir meant for Covid-19 positive patients has become the first treatment to be approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).

The FDA approval comes close on the heels of the Solidarity Trial of World Health Organisation (WHO) and Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), which said that the anti-viral drug had little or no effect on overall mortality and duration of hospital stay in patients.

The opposing views on Remdesivir from USFDA and WHO has managed to sow seeds of doubt and confusion among general public. Clinicians from Hyderabad, who are personally treating Covid-19 positive patients, however, point out that the answer over effectiveness of Remdesivir might lie somewhere in between.

A lot depends on when or at what stage the antiviral drug was administered to patients. “Timing of administering Remdesivir drug appears to be very important. If you use the drug at the right time on positive patients, then they recover. However, if you lose that narrow window, then the drug will be of no use and will unnecessarily become a financial burden on the patient,” says Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital, Dr M Raja Rao.

The USFDA has approved Remdesivir for use in adults and paediatric patients of 12 years and above and weighing more than 40 kg for treatment of Covid-19. The ICMR and WHO tested four drugs including Remdesivir, Interferon β1a, Lopinavir/Ritonavir and Hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). “Interim analysis showed that no benefits of Remdesivir in any groups of Covid-19 asymptomatic/mild/moderate/severe/critical) patients,”  T Today

Chris Gayle Signals his Return to IPL in Style, KXIP Beats RCB

Chris Gayle Signals his Return to IPL in Style, KXIP Beats RCB
K L Rahul played a captain’s knock and Chris Gayle fired in his first game since January as Kings XI Punjab finally ended their five-match losing streak with an eight-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in an IPL match here on Thursday.

Chasing 172 in a must-win game, the in-form opening pair of Rahul (61 not off 49) and Mayank Agarwal (45 off 25) got off to a flying start before Gayle (53 off 45) joined his skipper in the middle to get KXIP close to the finishing line.

Needing seven off the final two overs with nine wickets in hand, KXIP somehow managed to take the game to the last ball with Nicholas Pooran finally hitting the winning six. Both Rahul and Gayle smashed five sixes each, rendering the opposition attack helpless.

Batting first, skipper Virat Kohli top-scored with 48 off 39 balls in his 200th game for RCB before Chris Morris’ 25 off 8 in the death overs took the team to 171 for six. It was a rare all-round effort from KXIP who had failed to close out games earlier in the competition.

Mohammad Shami (2/45) conceded 24 runs in the final over that spoiled his figures after he got rid of Kohli and AB de Villiers but overall it was a much improved bowling effort by KXIP especially in the death overs. Leg spinner M Ashwin struck twice and pacer Chris Jordan took his first wicket of the tournament.

Residents Feel Ground Shake in Parts of Hyderabad, Scientists Say No Need to Worry

Residents Feel Ground Shake in Parts of Hyderabad, Scientists Say No Need to Worry
Fear gripped the residents of various colonies and gated communities in the IT corridor areas of Gachibowli, Financial District and Gopanpally as many people heard rumblings and felt the ground shake several times since Wednesday evening, following the heavy rains in Hyderabad over the past two days.

Hyderabad-based National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) seismologists said on Thursday that there is no cause for worry and informed that three microearthquakes measuring less than 0.8 on Richter scale were recorded from the region.

On Wednesday evening, people from Gachibowli, Financial District and a few other adjacent localities started hearing the sounds and felt the earth shake. Some residents of the My Home Vihanga residential complex in Financial District took to Twitter asking for help from the GHMC, claiming to have experienced at least 30-40 episodes of their buildings shaking.

Residents of even the TNGOs colony near Gopanpally and the nearby Secretariat colony also said that they heard rumbling sounds and felt the earth shake.
Dr Srinagesh D, chief scientist at NGRI who is an expert in seismology and earthquake hazard, said, "The average annual rainfall of Hyderabad is around 80 cm. The city has already recorded 123 cm rainfall, 50 percent more than the normal rainfall for an entire year. The rumbling sounds and tremors felt by the residents are suspected to be a result of hydroseismicity, similar to the phenomenon in Borabanda. There is no cause for fear."

Borabanda in the city has also been experiencing a similar phenomenon since the start of this month. NGRI scientists established monitoring stations there, which have been recording a couple of microearthquakes daily. These monitoring stations recorded the microearthquakes that emerged from the surroundings of Gachibowli.

Many microearthquakes were experienced in Borabanda in 2016 and 2017 as well.Indian Express

Hyderabad Rains 19 killed as Heaviest October Rain in a Century Maroons City
Heavy rainfall across Telangana have killed at least 19 people so far even as thunderstorm accompanied by lightning occurred at isolated places across the state, including capital Hyderabad. The incessant rains since Tuesday led to the capital city reeling under severe waterlogging and inundation of some low-lying areas.

The Met department on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for Hyderabad, while the state government declared a holiday on Wednesday and Thursday for all private institutions, offices, non-essential services within Outer Ring Road in view of rains. It also advised people to stay indoor as far as possible.

The IMD said that the sub-cyclonic system or “deep depression” is likely to peter out in a day, but will regain in strength once it crosses the Maharashtra coast on October 16. Earlier in the day, it also said that the depression over western parts of Telangana would move northwestwards and weaken into a low pressure area in 12 hours

Vanasthalipuram, Dammaiguda, Attapur Main Road, and Musheerabad were some of the areas of Hyderabad that faced severe waterlogging due to the overnight incessant rainfall. Many areas in central parts of Hyderabad like Begumpet, Ameerpet and Panjagutta also faced inundation.

As Hyderabad witnessed recorded unprecedented overnight rainfall, the GHMC authorities was forced to open the floodgates of the Himayat Sagar dam, which supplies water to Hyderabad, on Tuesday night, leading to many surrounding areas flooding.

The extent of the calamity that struck Hyderabad can be gauged by the fact that the city recorded its worst rainfall for the month of October in the last 100 years -- around 200 mm.

Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development KT Rama Rao and Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav held an emergency meeting with senior officials and reviewed the rescue and relief operations in the city. The GHMC Mayor, Deputy Mayor, MLAs, and other elected representatives and officials were ordered to be available in the field and continuously monitor and coordinate relief measures.
