Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who is the president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), said that they are not in a hurry to start any camps or training sessions.
Reacting to the State Government’s decision to allow the training sessions to resume from Wednesday (August 5), Azharuddin, who was a part of the group discussions with Sports Minister V Srinivas Goud, said: “How can we start a camp or any training sessions when the situation has not improved? We have to take care of the players and can’t put them at a risk. It is unfortunate but then we are all helpless,” he said.
With all sports, including cricket, coming to a halt since March because of the lockdown, the State Government had given a go ahead for resumption for training sessions with a few Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Azharuddin said that there are a lot of procedures to be put in practice before the resumption of cricket at Gymkhana or at Uppal Stadium or any other grounds. “We have to conduct Covid-19 tests and take all the necessary precautions. But I feel when the BCCI has not announced any domestic schedule because of the Covid-19, there is no point in starting a league or camps.
“It is my responsibility as president of the association to ensure safety of the players. It is a huge procedure. The players, umpires, scorers and the grounds staff have to undergo Covid tests and the grounds have to be sanitized. Cricket is a contact sport where the players are indirectly involved with each other and that is the risk involved
