Speaking to STOI, Bindu Madhavi said she paid Rs 17 lakh in cash to a private hospital in Banjara Hills for her husband’s treatment. “Now, neither do I have my husband nor any money. I was forced to beg and borrow from relatives and colleagues. They raised around Rs 10 lakh. For the rest, I had to dip into my own savings,” she said.

In another case, Kireety M whose father is admitted to a hospital in Secunderabad said, “We have amassed a bill of around Rs 10 lakh for 21 days.
