The property in question belongs to G Manoj Kumar, a senior accountant at the Anantpur Treasury Department. Officials say Manoj handles retirement, pension-related issues. Anantpur Police say that they also raided the home of Balappa who is the father-in-law of accountant G Manoj Kumar's driver Nagalinga.
It is from Balappa's home in SC Colony of Bukkarayasamudram that local police recovered at least eight trunks filled with 2.420 gm gold and 84 kg silver on Tuesday night along with Rs 15.55 lakh in cash. Apart from this, the police recovered seven high-end motorcycles that include a Harley Davidson, a Karizma and a bullet
Two SUVs, four tractors and three 3.9 mm Zoraki pistols with live rounds were also recovered during the raid at Balappa's slum lodgings. Fixed Deposits (FDs) and National Savings Scheme (NSS) deposits amounting to Rs 49.10 lakh have also landed under the scanner in addition to promissory notes worth Rs 27.50 lakh.
Anantpur Police has informed the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and the Income Tax Department about the seizure and has sought their help with further investigation
The prime suspect, G Manoj Kumar was the son of a police constable and was appointed as an accountant in the Treasury Department on compassionate grounds following his father's demise in 2005.
