Finance Minister T Harish Rao has said the State government has handed over 500 double-bedroom houses to the poor cutting across all castes in Siddipet district so far.
“The government has been giving priority to the poorest among the poor in providing the housing,” Harish Rao said, adding that the selection process was being conducted with utmost transparency giving no scope for corruption and nepotism.
Participating as chief guest at the mass house-warming ceremony of double bedroom houses at Irkode village in Siddipet rural Mandal on Sunday, the Minister congratulated the 25 beneficiaries when he visited their houses. Since the Chief Minister conceived the idea of providing double bedroom houses to all the poor, the government has been spending nearly Rs 15 lakhs on each double bedroom that includes the cost of land and infrastrastructure facilities, he said, adding that the government has spent Rs 1.57 crore on these 25 houses.
Urging the beneficiaries to utilise the houses properly. the Minister, appreciating the efforts of the villagers in making Irkode a model in development, said the village won national awards twice because of the unity among the people. Praising the works of Irkod SHG women, who set up a pulses processing unit, Harish Rao said they will set up pulses processing units and oil mills in Irkode to ensure financial empowerment of women. He also inaugurated an overhead storage tank built at a cost of Rs 30 lakhs.
