Six Dead in 2 Building Collapses in Fort Area and Malad Following Heavy Rain in Mumbai
Six people were killed in two different incidents of building collapse in Mumbai’s Fort Area and Malad on Thursday following heavy rain. Another building caved in in Thane earlier in the day, but there were no casualties.
Fort Area
Four people were killed and 17 rescued after a portion of a six-storeyed residential building collapsed in South Mumbai’s Fort Area in the afternoon. Four fire engines, one rescue van, an ambulance and an earth mover were sent to the spot. Later, a National Disaster Response Force team joined the rescue operation.
Malad chawl collapsed
Two people died after a chawl collapsed in Malad suburb of Mumbai as heavy rain continued to lash the city, Mumbai Mirror reported. Some people are still feared trapped.
The incident took place around 2.30 pm at Plot No 8B, Gate No 5 at Abdul Hamid Marg in Malvani area of Malad. Four fire engines, a rescue van and an ambulance were sent to the spot. The fire brigade has so far rescued two persons and provided them first aid.Scroll
