With scarcity of nurses reaching an all-time high, hospitals in the city have started offering as much as 50,000 along with perks such as food, accommodation and flight tickets hoping to hire some nurses. In fact, since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, salaries of nurses have seen a three-fold jump, from an average of 10,000 to 15000 per month to 50,000 and upwards now.
With several nursing staff contracting the virus and not finding support from their employers, there was an exodus of nurses from the city, particularly of nurses from Keral and Tamil Nadu
This has led to an acute shortage of nurses and we are currently flooded with requests from hospitals to send nurses. The problem however is that nurses have already returned to their native places and are refusing to come back even at salaries between 40,000 and 45,000," said Nursing Officers Association of Telangana president, Laxman Rudavath
