Hyderabad: Pharmacist Arrested for Selling Rs.5,400-Remdesivir at Rs.21,000

Hyderabad: Exposing how several persons were out to exploit the Covid-19 pandemic, a pharmacy store owner who sold the crucial Remdesivir injection at Rs.21,000, nearly four times its actual price of Rs.5,400, was arrested by the Punjagutta police here on Tuesday.

A resident of Golconda, Sikander Ali Khan, 29, had complained to the police on Tuesday that he purchased three Remdesivir injections from one medical store near the NIMS hospital for his relative who is taking treatment for Covid-19. The medical store charged him Rs. 63,000 for the three injections, when the MRP of the drug was Rs.5,400. The pharmacist cited the non availability of the injection in the market when the exorbitant price was questioned, Khan said in his complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police booked a case under Sections 188, 420 of IPC and Section 70 of Essential Commodities Act 1995, Section 51 (B) of Disaster Management Act 2005 and Section 27 of Drugs and Cosmetics Act against the pharmacy owner Mohammed Siddiqui. He was arrested and produced before court, after which he was remanded in judicial custody.Telangana Today
