Hyderabad Heritage Building of Osmania Hospital Vacated To Be Sealed

The old heritage building of the Osmania General Hospital (OGH), which housed several inpatient wards and administration offices, has been vacated on Wednesday, following orders from Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr. K Ramesh Reddy.

“We have vacated the building after the incident of rainwater inundation a few days ago. The patients who were recovering in various wards in the heritage building have been shifted to other wards,” Dr. Reddy said.

The DME has also issued instructions to close the old OGH building and seal it. The management of the OGH has been asked not to conduct any activity in the old building till alternative arrangements are made.

“We have instructed to close the building and seal to discourage unscrupulous elements from misusing the empty building,” the DME said.

A few years ago, the old heritage building at OGH was declared unfit for occupation by JNTU civil engineers. Over the years, State health officials had made several attempts to vacate the heritage building, which needs regular maintenance, especially during the rainy season. With rainwater inundating major parts of the heritage structure recently, the health officials finally decided to vacate the building and shift the patients to other Telengana Today
