Asaduddin Owaisi Wants Waqf Chairman to Be Replaced

We have nothing against the current chairperson, but the board must be led by someone who can actually manage many responsibilities and duties that come with the office of the chairperson, says MIM chief

AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi wanted the present chairman of Waqf Board Mohd Saleem to be replaced with someone more competent than him, following the controversy regarding demolition of religious structures inside the Old Secretariat compound. In a series of tweets the Hyderabad MP said: “It is high time that we have a competent person chairing the Waqf Board.”

“We have nothing against the current chairperson, but the board must be led by someone who can actually manage many responsibilities and duties that come with the office of the chairperson. As ruling party, TRS is free to appoint their own person but due attention should be paid to their ability and skills,” Asad said

Asad pointed out that with a competent person at the helm eth affairs this issue wouldn’t have arisen. “I am sure that it will not be difficult for the government to find a more capable person to appoint. You (government) can consider appointing AK Khan (Retired ADGP) or Malik Motasim Khan or anyone else whose experience reflects competence and capability,” he said.

He further said that AIMIM will be submitting a draft amendment empowering Waqf Board with summary eviction powers similar to Hindu Endowment Boards. “Today’s announcement by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao was timely. He should immediately call Muslim community leaders and scholars, we’ll definitely come and reiterate our demand for both Masjids at the place where they were. The Masjids are registered waqf properties as recorded in government Gazettes,” he added.

Asad suggested that after seeking appropriate legal opinion, the Chief Minister must consider superseding Telangana Waqf Board in the interest of protecting Waqf properties of the State Telangana Today
