Experts Warn of Second Covid Wave in Telangana

Experts Warn of Second Covid Wave in Telangana
After fighting the Covid-19 pandemic for several months and succeeding in flattening the virus curve, a majority of European countries including UK, France, Spain and parts of Italy and Germany are now experiencing a second wave of Covid-19 outbreak. In India, at present Kerala is witnessing a second wave of Covid-19 outbreak.

A few days ago, Kerala Health Minister K K Shailaja, who had received a lot of praise for Covid containment strategies, acknowledged that certain sections of the population in the State did not follow Covid guidelines properly, which led to such a situation. Senior public health officials in Hyderabad are wary of having to face a similar surge in Covid cases in the form of a second wave or at least localised outbreaks in the form of clusters, as economic activity picks up across Telangana.

With unlock guidelines coming into full force across the State, there is a lot of inter-district and inter-State mobility of individuals that could cause a surge in infections or trigger a localised cluster of Covid-19 cases. “If we do not continue to take preventive measures, then a surge could happen at any time. A cluster of cases at one or two geographical regions is also a possibility. There is a dire need to avoid mass gatherings, political or religious meetings etc.

The local body elections in the near future could lead to a lot of gatherings in public areas. While there is a hint of reduction in cases, caution on the part of the general public is much needed,” Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao, said. Telngana Today

First of Its Kind Sky Walk for Hyderabad

Even as the city denizens are yet to get a proper glimpse of the Durgam Cheruvu cable-stayed marvel, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has secured administrative sanction from the State government for what could be another engineering phenomenon in the form of a skywalk at Uppal.

already floated tenders and an agency has been finalised to execute the works. This, officials said, will be the first-of-its-kind structure being planned in the city. To be all of 660 metres and connecting all the four sides, including the Metro station, the skywalk is expected to take a year for completion.

The structure will be equipped with a host of facilities, including elevators and escalators and circumnavigate the junction. Unlike conventional skywalks that facilitate passage from one end to the other, the Uppal skywalk will facilitate pedestrian movement in multiple directions, HMDA officials said.

The work, to be launched very soon, is estimated to cost Rs.36.50 crore and will be executed in two stages. Stage A will include main provisions such as the skywalk, lifts and escalator, electrical, fire safety and landscaping.

Custom-Made Boeing 777 Aircraft for President, VP, PM to Arrive in India Today

Custom-Made Boeing 777 Aircraft for President, VP, PM to Arrive in India Today
A custom-made B777 aircraft, which will be used to fly the president, vice president and the prime minister, is going to arrive from the US in India on Thursday, said government officials. The plane was scheduled to be delivered by aircraft manufacturer Boeing to Air India during August but the delivery was delayed due to technical reasons, the officials noted.

Senior officials of the national carrier had reached the US during the first half of August to receive the plane from Boeing, the officials said. Air India One, which is the call sign of the aircraft, will land at the Delhi airport from Texas at around 3 pm on Thursday, they stated.

Another custom-made B777 plane for the travel of VVIPs is likely to be received from Boeing during a later date, they noted. It was expected that the delivery of these two planes, which are earmarked for VVIP travel only, would be done by July. However, due to COVID-19, their delivery has been delayed by a few months.

During the travel of the VVIPs, the two B777 aircraft will be operated by pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) and not of Air India, an official said. Currently, the president, vice president and the prime minister, fly on Air India's B747 planes, which have the call sign Air India One.

Air India pilots fly these B747 aircraft for the dignitaries and the Air India Engineering Services Limited (AIESL) maintains them. When these B747 aircraft are not flying the dignitaries, they are used by the Indian national carrier for commercial operations. The new planes will be used for travel of the dignitaries only. These two aircraft were part of Air India's commercial fleet for a few months in 2018 before they were sent back to Boeing for retrofitting them for VVIP travel. HT

The Golconda Fort, which falls under the Archaeological Survey of India, was opened earlier this month.

Speaking about it, on Thursday, V Srinivas Goud, minister of state for excise, sports, tourism and culture said that boating services at Mir Alam Tank and Durgam Cheruvu would also resume from Thursday. Along with the lakes and archaeological spots, even private sports centres including swimming pools, have been allowed to start operations. “People should be cautious and abide by all Covid-19 regulations,” said Goud while urging citizens to follow social distancing while visiting these facilities.

In light of Covid regulations, temperature of tourists will be checked through the thermo scanners at tourist centers. Tourism staff must wear face masks as well as hand gloves. Goud suggested that visitors maintain a physical distance of six feet while also directing authorities to allow digital payments, online ticket booking and online payments at tourist destinations to encourage tourists TOI

Unlock 5.0 Guidelines Cinema Halls Can Open States to Decide on Schools From October 15

Unlock 5.0 Guidelines Cinema Halls Can Open States to Decide on Schools From October 15
States and Union Territories can take a decision on whether to open schools from October 15; cinemas and multiplexes will be allowed to open with 50 per cent capacity from the same date; limits on outdoor gatherings have been removed while indoors gatherings will be allowed with 50 per cent capacity — there are among the new unlockdown guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday evening.

The guidelines, which are to come into effect from October 15, also say PhD and post-graduate students of science and technology streams — those that may require laboratory work — can open, while a decision to open all colleges “may be taken” by the Department of Higher Education in consultation with the Home Ministry.

The MHA has relaxed limits on gatherings, both outdoor and indoor. “Now State/UT Governments have been given the flexibility to permit such gatherings beyond the limit of 100 persons outside Containment Zones, after 15th October 2020”, the MHA said.

The caveat, however, is that for indoor spaces, the gathering can’t exceed 50 per cent of the hall capacity or 200 people. For outdoor events, the guidelines say that the size of the ground must be kept in mind, though the MHA has not mandated a ceiling. In both cases, the guidelines prescribe masks, social distancing and other Covid protocol.

Business to business exhibitions are allowed, too, and swimming pools “being used for sportspersons” are also permitted to open, as are entertainment parks. All of these will have SOPs issued by their governing ministries and will be permitted to open from October 15.

On the re-opening of schools, the MHA said “State/ UT Governments have been given the flexibility to take a decision after 15th October 2020, in a graded manner.” IE
